On Friday, July 16, 2021, Judge Andrew Hanen, a federal judge in Texas, ruled that Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, is illegal and blocked new applicants. However, the ruling states that DHS may continue to accept new DACA applications and renewal DACA applications, as it has been previously ordered to, but is prohibited from approving any new DACA applications. The order states that no action is required on the part of immigration to take any immigration, deportation or criminal action against any DACA applicant or any other individual that it would not otherwise take.
